Francis of Assisi

November 5, 2009 - 10:14 pm 3 Comments

I am reading another Brennan Manning book.  I really love his books.  He quotes Francis of Assisi in a chapter, and it really spoke to me:

” Keep a clear eye toward life’s end.  Do not forget your purpose and destiny as God’s creature.  What you are in his sight is what you are and nothing more.  Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have recieved- fading symbols of honor, trappings of power- but only what you have given: a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.”

Words and Actions

“The Christian commitment is not an abstraction. It is a concrete, visible, courageous, and formidable way of being in the world, forged by daily choices consistent with the truth……… the one who talks, especially if he talks to God, can affect a great deal, but the one who acts really means business and has more claims on our attention.”
~ Brennan Manning.
