You Say Tomato, I Say Tomato Too Actually…

~I picked this big mama tomato today! I’ve been watching this one grow and just hoping the bugs wouldn’t get to it before it got ripe. The tops of my tomatoes have been splitting, (advice please) but they are super tasty and make excellent salsa. Next I’m going to try some spaghetti sauce with my roma tomatoes.

~This is one of Blue’s journal entry drawings of a tomato growing in our garden…. I just love summer!

We had one about that size growing and I had been waiting on it to ripen. I checked it one evening and decided I would pick it the following day. I went to pick it the next day and a bird had pecked a whole in it. I was so mad.

The splitting has to do with water. Ours are splitting too. If you don’t water them enough when we get big rains like we have been getting the tomato simply outgrows its skin. So they split. Moral of the story, water the crap out of them so when they get a surge of rain water they don’t do what they are doing.

Joe~ thanks for the tip. I had heard it happened from lack of water, but I’ve been thinking that the ground has been so wet, how could this be happening? Makes sense.

My mouth watered when I saw this picture. Amazing and it’s natural! Let me know how the salsa turns out
