Mixed Up Birthdays

Last year I missed my Dad’s birthday. I completely forgot about it, and about a week passed before I realized it. I felt terrible, and so when I called him I was already apologizing as he answered. He just laughed and said, “I was waiting to see how long it would take you to remember!” I got him a “Merry Christmas, sorry it’s late” card, as a joke, and this year I made sure to remember.

A month before my birthday he showed up on my porch with a cake and a birthday present for me. I was confused for a minute, thinking that I really had screwed up my days, and then he said, “if you can mix up birthday’s can’t I?” Then he had me come out to his car where he had boughten me a bird bath, that I’ve been saying I wanted for my flower garden!

    Cute stories, Kristin!

One year, on my fatherinlaw’s bday, we all got together at his house for dinner, but he was late. We waited and called, waited and called. Finally, he shows up with a big bag of wrapped gifts ~ FOR US! He said, “It’s my birthday, I can give you guys gifts if I want to!” I thought it was pretty sweet. Another way to “mix up” a birthday!

Oh I love the bird bath Kristin. It looks great! And I remember you posting about your dad’s b-day mishap. This post of his “early birthday” surprise for you is one of the sweetest things I’ve read in a long time. Made me smile, tear up, and miss my own dad.
So loving! Thanks for sharing it with us. :)

One year I forgot EVERYONE in my extended family. The only person I remembered was my grandmother and that was because we had a family party for her. I forgot my side of the family and my husband’s side of the family. It was beyond weird.
