I love Cinco de Mayo, because in our family, it’s a guarantee that we will eat mexican food this day.  I made some salsa yesterday with some fresh cilantro from my garden, and it was delicious, I’m looking forward to when the tomatoes are ready.

Eating some mexican food is about all I’ve got planned today.

Do you celebrate Cinco de Mayo?  What is your favorite mexican food place in your area of the world?

  • I baisically adore Spring in Tennessee…
  • If I didn’t have allergies Spring would be perfect. Super green everywhere, and flowers a plenty.
  • It has rained so much for  a few days straight…. and the lawn mower is moldy grassy again, which means smelly garage, and house.
  • Only 3 weeks left of school!
  • I have got to take a video of Cooper doing karate, because it seriously reminds me of when Chris Farley auditioned to be a chip and dale dancer on SNL.
  • Taped and tried to watch the “Notebook”  again, but stopped it.  For some reason I can not seem to watch that movie.  All I’ve heard about it is that it’s “So good, but so sad.”  I’m never really prepared to sit down and be voluntarily sad. For people that have seen it, should I watch it?  Is it like “Steal Magnolias” sad, or “Angelas Ashes” sad?
  • About to go and pick up Brody, on a Sunday evening, which is so much better than a Monday morning!
  • Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Garden…

I was so excited to see that the seeds I’d planted are growing! (last year I did not have luck with seeds) These are zucchini plants, started from seeds:

I also, didn’t want to start my first gardening experiment with something elaborate, and also new that the soil in the spot I picked is good soil, with a little compost mixed in. I started digging, and with some occasional help from the boys, and some major help from my dad, I ended up with a humble little garden, that is doing well so far- I’m already loving using basil in pastas and salads.

In the garden is:

~Watermelon and Pumpkin (These are the boys’ plants, and they planted them, the pumpkin is from a seed)
~Tomatoes, different varieties
~Basil and Cilantro
~Yellow Summer squash, and Zucchini
~Snap peas, and green beans, (from seeds)
~Marigolds at the edges

I read in Southern Living that a good way to give tomatoes a lot of support while growing, is to take a tomato cage, turn it upside down, and over the tomato plant. Then take bamboo sticks and shove the ends into the ground, securing the tomato cage, and tying at the top, to make a sort of tee pee shape.

So there is the beginning of my “Garden 2009″ experiment, we’ll see how it goes!
