Kids Make You Smarter

October 15, 2008 - 12:37 pm 4 Comments

I recently read a post about how having children makes mothers smarter. Nothing much more to the post than that, but I can see how that could be.

Especially after this morning, when my son quizzed me with math questions all the way to school…. before I’d had coffee. (I think his math award has spurred him on to want to do more math- congratulations to him by the way- he doesn’t get that from me) I was glad he couldn’t see my hands, because I was definitely using my fingers to count.

Today my positive post is about my husband Brody. This guy is such a wonderful man. I’ve been fortunate to have him around the past few months, eating most meals together, putting the kids to bed together, and spending time enjoying each others company. He is about to be out on the road off and on for a couple months, and I am going to miss him. I am fortunate to have my husband as my best friend, but it’s difficult when my husband and my best friend are going to be gone for a long time, and be busy! Thankfully it’s the times like the past few months that we can cling to while apart off and on for the next few months, and we can look forward to being together again, in December.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

I get to volunteer once a week in my oldest sons’ kindergarten class, and I am usually assigned to a group of kids. Last week we sat around doing our craft project as the kids and I chatted. One little boy suddenly stood up and said, “I can mexican dance,” and then proceeded to move his feet around, and apparently, “mexican dance.” We watched him, and then he sat back down and finished his project.
Awhile later, the two little girls in the group, got into a fight about who was putting the game away the right way, when another little boy leans over to me and says, “she’s crabby… like my mom.”

Kindergartners are hilarious.

Little Artist

~My boys have such different personalities. My middle son is the quiet one, whose favorite activity is sitting and listening to music, or looking at a book. His newest hobby is painting. He loves having a palette full of colors to mix, and experiment with.

I love the diversity of my kids. I often wonder how their personalities will translate into adulthood. What things about them will change, and grow? What things about them will stay the same? It’s interesting and exciting to “get to know them,” the older they get.

Take On Me – Literal Version

Ok- Brody showed me this video last night, and it is sooo funny, I had to share.  This is the original video for this song, but the lyrics are different to literally describe the video.  Funny…

Refreshing!

The Ham Festival.

October 5, 2008 - 8:46 am 4 Comments

I love going to festivals and fairs and things. I like the tradition of it, and the seasonal aspect of them.
Every year we’ve lived in TN I’ve gone to the Ham Festival in our little town. Just that it’s even called, “The Ham Festival,” makes me laugh. There was one booth that we saw, that had ham. The rest is classic quirky festival events. The country singer, singing about throwing bottles against the wall, the lady in a shower cap trying to get the audience to join her in a “shower cap parade,” the bounce houses, (which stayed inflated this year) and the “choo-choo” train.

We ate some classic fair food, except for Brody, who was brave in my opinion, for deciding to get a burrito from a mexican truck… at the Ham festival…in TN…

The kids left with a pumpkin each that they “harvested” from some piles of hay, and were happy to have petted some goats, lamas,… and a turtle. Aside from Brody’s stomach ache, and some very thirsty kids, we had a really great time, and start to our fall festivities!

New Linkage

I have some exciting new links, that I’ve been meaning to talk about!

First is my sister in law, Erin! We’ve been wanting her to blog for a long time, so we could see the cute pictures of our niece and nephews, and hear her stories about raising 3 kids, 9 puppies, 3 dogs, an iguana, and a husband!

Second are two new music blogs, Joy Whitlock, a new up and coming musician, with a beautiful voice, and a behind the scenes look at being a traveling musician. (and who also has a really beautiful blog!) She also has an fun-to-look-at- flicker account, and twitter.

Another new link, is a friend and musician, Elijah Stephen, who lives in the area we came from, and has an entertaining blog complete with a horse at the gas pumps… you gotta see for yourself…
