Days off…and kid conversations.

June 19, 2008 - 6:48 am 2 Comments

Yesterday I had a day off, and spent the entire day outside, pulling weeds, hanging out, watching the kids play and picnicking in our front yard with all the neighborhood kids, which is where I got a window into their imaginary world, and it cracked me up.

There were about 6 kids who’d been playing outside all morning together, in various costumes, and running from hideout to hideout.  I always wonder what they are playing, so yesterday I sat and listened.  Here’s how the conversation went, (they were talking about the imaginary world in which they were playing.)

~”So, how did the dinosaurs get here?”

~”We can go back in time, and so can they.”

~”Are the flying dinosaurs more dangerous than hawks or vultures?”

~”Basically…. well, yes….”

~”Next we’ll conquer the ocean!”

~Boy holds up dart gun, and says, “this isn’t waterproof.”

~Little girl, “OH GREAT!”

Quoteage..

If you couldn’t tell already, I love quotes.  They make me think, they are short and easy to remember, and I like that they are usually from old wise people.

I thought that being that the 40 day fast is quickly approaching us, (starts in 5 days!) I’d start posting some of my favorite quotes every now and then, that inspire me in the way of helping others, and on topics of the like.

So enjoy, and think……….

“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.”    ~Albert Einstein

~do you have a favorite quote?

Indiana Jones

June 16, 2008 - 6:48 pm 1 Comment

Brody and I went on a date the other night,

(thank you to Julie for the first shift of baby sitting, and to Randy for 2nd shift)

We burned our mouths from a spicy shrimp burrito, then went and saw the new Indiana Jones movie.

(I might accidentally spoil something so don’t read further if you’ve not seen it yet.. )

I liked it.

I’ve heard mixed reviews, but my thoughts are that it went so well with the rest of the Indiana Jones’ movies, (except for maybe the aliens?) and left off with the obvious “who is the next Indiana guy”.  I’m glad they did that instead of trying to find someone to replace Harrison Ford, because he does such a good job.  Yes, it was a little cheesy, but that is how those movies are.  I jumped, (was a little embarrassed for jumping, because I kinda nudged the guy sitting next to me…) closed my eyes at a few parts, and laughed, which are all signs of a good movie.

(However, I haven’t been to a movie since around Christmas time, so I could’ve been in awe of the “magic” of the movies, who knows…)

My favorite of the indiana jones movies was “The Last Crusade.” I like all the horse riding, and Sean Connery.

Did you see it, what did you think?

Happy Father’s day

June 14, 2008 - 9:46 pm 5 Comments

Happy Fathers day.

(My dad called me yesterday, to remind me not to forget this time, thanks dad!)

I have been fortunate to have really great men in my life.  My grandpas were really awesome men, my dad too, my father in law, and now my husband.  I think having a good dad is an important thing in life, and I’m glad that my kids have that in Brody.

He really loves them strongly, and tells them so.  He’s incredibly supportive, he’d never miss anything they are involved in on purpose. He’s always wanted to be at their doctor’s appointments, games, school shows etc.  He’s a dad that is really there.  I’m glad for that, for my boys.

So, Happy Fathers day to all the fathers in my life, and the fathers out there too.

(does anyone call their dad “father” any more?  I think we should change it to “Dad’s day,” don’t you?)

I’m it!

I’ve been tagged, so now I need to write 10 weird, random facts, habits or goals about myself. At the end I’ll choose 6 people to be tagged, list their names & why I tagged them, those are the rules, so here we go:

1. I am emotionally attached to plants.

2. When I drink from bottles, I generally drink from the side of my mouth… I’ve noticed my 5 year old does it too.

3.  I’m still scared of the dark, so now I blame leaving the lights on at night,-on my kids.

4. Ever since I read “Miss Rumphius” as a child, I wanted to be her.  (basically the idea of traveling the world, making the world more beautiful somehow, and growing old by the sea)

5.  I can’t stand it when my eyebrows are messed up, pushed the wrong way or something, and I don’t like watching people do that to their eyebrows either… it’s the equivalent of petting an animals’ hair the opposite way… why do people do that?

6.  Brody and I were eating in a chinese restaurant one time, and a woman started choking.  I got up and gave her the heimleck maneuver, a couple of times, and then she spit out a piece of pork.  I was shaking like crazy afterward.

7.  I have 2 tattoos, both of which were impulsive, and not thought out.  One my husband and I got together, just from walking by a tattoo shop in Seattle and after being awake for over 40 hours.  We choose this big black design that was supposed to look like it was painted on.  Instead it looks like crap, and is of an egyptian god.  How do you cover a big black tattoo that takes up most of your ankle, with another tattoo that isn’t big and black?   We are still trying to figure that out.

8.  I love learning languages, and want to be fluent in 5 different ones.  I say 5 because I know that is doable for the human brain.

9.  I got really sick as a kid, of dehydration, and hallucinated and saw myself lying in the hospital bed, and was telling myself to wake up….I can still picture it, weird…

10. I have identical freckles on the insides of my arms, and sometimes draw a line on both my arms, so when I put them together it looks like a happy face.

I tag:

~Tracy: she cracks me up, and I want to hear some random facts about her!

~Truevyne: she’s a very interesting and wise person to me…

~Just Mom: a great writer, and I’m also interested in learning more about her.

~Jessie: I feel like I already know a lot about her, but am wondering if there’s more?

…. and anyone else who wants to!  So, Your it!  What is the weirdest most random fact about you?

Positive Post Tuesday

June 10, 2008 - 12:40 pm No Comments

~My positive post today is going to be about Hannah, whom I just met for the first time, on our trip to Michigan. She was the bride of my husband’s friend Matt, which is who my husband took pictures for- for their wedding…. (still following? that sentence confused even me…)

Anyways, they’d asked Brody to take their wedding pictures, and I came along, with our 18 month old. I expected to be a fly on the wall, and stay out of the way to let them all enjoy their day, but she welcomed us to join them in all the festivities, and was incredibly sweet. She was the calmest, happiest most easy going girl, which is so unusual to see of a bride on the day before her wedding and on her wedding day.

It was great to be able to witness their happy day, and to meet them and their families!

Brody also did an amazing job taking their pictures.  That one is my favorite.
