At least my hair didn’t catch fire.
Last summer my ear was clogged for over a month.
Yesterday morning, I blew my nose (nasty allergies) and my right ear sealed right up.
All day, I have tried to open this ear, using different wax removal methods, taking all different kinds of allergy medication, and finally letting my husband light a ear wax candle and put it into my ear.
Those things scare me, I get really stressed having a flame that close to my head, and hearing the crackling in my ear. My hair is super frizzy, so a tiny spark would light it right up, I know it. The candle was flaming good, filling my ear with smoke, and then the fire alarms went off, sending all three boys to tears. I’m sure in their head they were probably wondering “why is daddy trying to light mommy on fire?”
Needless to say, that didn’t work… so when I bent down at work today there was a brief moment where my ear popped. I jumped up and down, saying “I can hear!” and then I bent down again, and it sealed up. Crap…. I hate having my ear clogged.
So now, my last thought is to hang upside down for awhile to see if that works.
Any suggestions?

Go to the doctor.
I had the problem about a month ago and they flushed my ear out and it was all better.
Takes them like 2 minutes.

That sounds extremely frustrating! Sorry, I don’t know any tricks, but I hope it opens up soon.

My only suggestion is to keep the whole Brody/fire combination away from your hair!!!

Why Ear Candling Is Not a Good Idea
I have successfully used ear drops before. They have some sort of solution with hydrogen peroxide. I did them every night for a week as the instructions said, and by the end of the week chunks of hard wax began coming out when I rinsed out my ears. But you’re not supposed to use these if you have any punctures or a history of more serious ear problems.
This is obviously cheaper than going to a doctor. But if the drops don’t work for you, then the ENT doc has a few different methods of wax removal also.
It’s worth it to get rid of the wax, if you ask me. I could hear much better after using the drops, and after a while the pressure from the wax is painful and uncomfortable inside the ear canal (at least it was for me).

I should also mention that when I used the drops, I had much worse hearing in one ear for a few days at the beginning. It seemed like it got worse at first. But when it finally loosened up the wax, big chunks came out and it felt great to have the ear canal wide open!

so I’m a first time reader… and this made me laugh outloud. Terrible, really, laughing at someone you barely know in their time of greatest peril. So I’m commenting to apologize for my insensitivity. Plus also I have no idea what you should do. Except possibly consult a doctor, especially since this has happened before (the clogged ear part, not the mommy-on-fire part)

Sorry no tricks here either, my ear clogs up almost every night. Convenient for sleeping in noisy places, not for waking up to alarms. I have found nothing that helps, my mom had that happen and went to doctor to help clean it all out. Good luck!

I would opt for the irrigation method too. Get some “ear wax softener” at the drug store and use it for a couple of days. Then use a syringe (like the ones they give you for babies at the hospital)filled with warm water to irrigate your ear. Use pretty good force (not too much!) and repeat until your ear is clear. I do this often unfortunately.

So, I’m using the drops, and then I’ll try the flushing out the ear, sounds like some good tips!!
I do remember a doctor removing some wax from my ear with tweezers before, that doesn’t sound fun either… I don’t really like to have to sit still so someone can poke me or anything, but I’ll do it if I have to!

Ok, this cracked me up. I am sure the 5 of you were a site to see. I love the ear candles! Of course Tatum looks at me weird when Al and I do it so I can’t imagine having your boys watch.
The first couple times I’d throw a damp towel over my head to insure no fire. Now that I am confident in my head tipping abilities I just tie my hair back. I don’t do it often but man its great when I do. I would say its time to see the doctor.

My ears were recently clogged and while visiting the doctor for some other random reason, they flushed my ears out. no tweezers just a lot of water.

Marha, so it works for you? I heard that you can unravel it when you are done to see what came out of your ear, have you ever done that?
My neighbor has a water flusher, so if need be I’ll ask to borrow it again. My ear keeps coming un clogged and then clogging back up again at night. I’ve been waking up with both clogged in the morning. I’ve been mis hearing a lot of words lately!
