What are you planting?

It’s been that time of year for awhile, to start seeds, or plant seedlings. Are you adding anything new to your gardens, this year?

I’m trying to get rid of black spot on my roses, and care for the plants I planted last year. Along with that I’ve started some cherry tomato seeds both indoors and out to see which grow better. (my kids have poured rice in the pots outside, and messed with the dirt, so those don’t have as strong a chance…)

I have planted some little white flowers, and my favorite of all is the basil. Fresh basil and mozzarella grilled cheese, basil in spaghetti sauce, homemade pesto. All such yummy things, I can’t wait!

We have three different tomatoes, a squash, basil, cilantro, chives, and some string beans. We will see what makes it and what does not but it is fun to watch.

We have 3 giant pumpkins, 2 tomatoes, and a pizza planter, (parsley, basil, green pepper, and something else.) I also planted some marigolds but somehow I killed them and not the tomatoes that I planted them with. I do not have a green thumb, but we are trying!

I also just planted basil along with sunflower seeds and wrote about it on my blog! I usually have a brown thumb when it comes to gardening so I’ll be excited if anything sprouts up. :)

I definitely don’t have a green thumb! But, I always plant mint in the summer for mojitos!!

All I have are the potted plants that I take along every time we move and the ones that were pre-existing at our current rental home… I have some yummy “garlic chives” that I’ve managed to keep alive for a few years and some rosemary. The rest are house plants and flowers – which I love just as much as the edibles!

Oh my goodness I’ve been going garden crazy! I’m probably in over my head and have to slow down, but I’m loving gardening so much! :) This is my first garden and So far I’ve planted corn, carrots, summer squash, cucumbers, romaine lettuce, three kinds of tomatoes, lots of basil ( I love it too!), watermellon, mint, strawberries, snow peas, sweet peppers, thyme, lavender, oregano, cilantro, chives, rosemary, and several other herbs that I can’t think of(it’s past my bedtime). I’ve also been working on the flowerbed, but my husband pointed out that the seed packets have clashing colors. Can flowers really clash?

You had to ask that question? This is my fourth year ever as a gardener. Many seeds I planted two weeks ago have not even sprouted (cucumber, watermelon, cantalope, allysum). Either they were not good seeds or it’s not been hot enough. Sigh. I’m considering a new batch of seeds if this week something doesn’t push through the earth. Also, the two basil plants I bought died of my careless neglect.
New things this year- columbine, a few new flower types I can’t remember given by my gardening friend, a climbing rose as a birthday present, grape hyacinth bean (though only one has sprouted so far), new pretend banana peppers, sungold tomatoes, a red maple tree for mother’s day.
Usual things growing in my garden- zinnias, a variety of tomatoes, asparagus, yellow and green squash, dill, lavender, sunflowers, bell peppers of many colors, clematis, a leek, top crop green beans, one tinesy volunteer basil (yes!), marigolds, and two varieties of parsely. I also have herb gardens elsewhere with hearty sage, robust rosemary, thyme, oregano, and cat mint, another variety of lavender.
New things from previous year- hydrangea, peony, coneflowers, new new irises (peach and dwarf deep purple), obedient plant, pinks, canaas, lupines, rose, lily of the valley, lantana.
I’ll share with anyone who asks!
