Dream House

We had lunch yesterday in a cute restaurant downtown, with brick walls, old wood floors, and wooden exposed ceilings. There were big wooden farm tables throughout and an every light fixture was a different rod iron chandelier type.

The second room had rugs all over, and comfy couches. I sat there, looked around, and said.. “I want a house like this. Floors that get more charming if you drop something on them. Open, exposed ceilings, brick walls….” That is the style of house, or loft I’d want. Old. Charming, brick, wood, arches, small, comfy, open.

Put that close by a beautiful lake, river, or ocean, and I think that completes my dream house.

What’s yours?

I agree with you. I love watching the HGTV shows where they transform an old warehouse into a living space!

I love the warehouse look. We have concrete floors that are wonderful with kids and dogs. My dream house is on the beach or close enough to walk to it every day.

Our house now sits on a creek with a large island behind us. We are in the middle of our city so I feel very blessed to have this area of green and a little natural waterfall.

I hear you…I’d love a house with charm and history.

My father in law used to live in a house in France that was “built” in 1200 (it was built into at cave so it was made of stone – hence it could survive 800 years…) Anyway, I always thought that was really cool.

So – old, lots of history…

    ….plus all the modern conveniences.

    I don’t think I’m asking too much.

I’ve always wanted a house that is covered in ivey, and has two extra stories underground that no can see unless they go inside. oh and hidden passages, like Clue the movie.

My husband and I used to want to build a very large timber frame with high ceilings, a stone fireplace, etc. Now, although we want the same type of house, we want one much smaller. I don’t want to have to maintain a large home as we get older (we hope to build when we retire) and want to be able to live without a mortgage or a very small one. One thing I really want though is a large bathroom with a terrarium outside a large window (fenced of course) where I can sit and relax. I also want the master bedroom on the ground floor so that again, as we age, we can live on one floor as well as heat and cool a smaller area when the kids aren’t living or visiting with us.

I love hard wood floors, open spaces, lots of light. I like those craftsman style cotteges that mission furniture looks like it fits in. But most of all right now my dream house would have centeral air conditioning!

ooh, I think I like the same thing as you, Kristin. And I’m glad Ryan and I both have the same taste. Maybe someday, that will come in handy!
