Shakin’ like an earth quake…

Apparently we had an earthquake here in TN. this morning around 4 am. No one in my house woke up, or felt it, but our neighbors did, and said it was a .5 earthquake.

I remember as a kid, when I lived in Los Angeles, we’d have really bad earthquakes, and have to crawl under the kitchen table until they stopped. I remember swaying on the staircase, hearing the car alarms going off outside, and watching the things on my dresser fall off. They never really scared me, probably because I didn’t know what was happening, I probably thought, “this is like a roller coaster!”

Anyone have a good earthquake story, or feel the one this morning?

I grew up in Massachusetts. When I was about 10 years old….early 80’s…..we had a small earthquake. We awoke to a few items that had fallen from shelves. it was quite unsettling. I later learned that the eastern seaboard has a large dormant fault beneath the Appalachain Mountain Chain. It is predicted to awaken some day and could potentially produce some MAJOR quakes!!!!!

I grew up on the island of Oahu, so I’ve felt an earthquake before — and have been through a hurricane. Fortunately, both were mild.

    Glad you’re OK.

Didn’t feel it here, but my friends in Knoxville did.

    Kristin,
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile but have never commented. You have a great blog. I’ve been reading Brody’s blog for even longer from my buddy Phil Wickham. I work in the music industry…in the middle of a job change…trying to relocate to Nashville…my blog is pretty borring. I haven’t gotten into it very much but I’m trying to slowly… I met Brody today and wanted to say hey to you. You should come down to some of the showcase this week with Brody. It would be cool to meet you too! (hopefully this comes across as friendly and not freaky because I’m not really use to talking to people in a casual sense before I meet them)

    Hannah, that is cool!

I’ll see what is on the schedule, and about babysitting if I can make it to one !

    Have a good time…

Wow, yes. Mammo and I lived in Belmont Shore in the 70’s, a big one hit and we held each other in the door frame of our little apt. I thought for sure the bulding was falling forward. Scary stuff.
    Love you, Mom

Yikes! An earthquake? I don’t have an earthquake story and I’m thankful.

When I was about 12, we lived in Indiana. My sister and I were sitting in our living room and everything started vibrating. Then the lamp started swaying back and forth and almost tipped over. The windows rattled a few more times and that was it. Scared the begeebies out of us. Turns out it was about a 7 on the richter scale and did some damage to different parts of Indiana and the midwest.

The geologists were actually relieved at the earthquake because they said that the New Madrid fault was due for a big one. The last New Madrid quake made the Mississippi run backwards and buried a bunch of dinosaurs mid-chomp. So they were thankful for the size, even though it was big enough to do a little damage but not big enough to destroy the mid-west.
