He’s tough, I’m a wimp…

My little boy got his first broken (or cracked) ankle. Last night he jumped off the coffee table, aiming for the bean bag, and instead landed on his ankle, grazing his brother’s head. He was immediately yelling for ice, and crying, not acting like himself when he usually falls.
He doesn’t complain when he’s in pain. He’s had double ear infections before, and carries on as normal, we don’t know easily when he’s injured. Last night though, he cried out in pain in the middle of the night, and still wouldn’t walk on his foot this morning, but claimed he could hop to the birthday party he was invited to.
Instead, we spent a few hours at the emergency room to find out that he had a slight crack in one of his bones in his ankle, his foot was wrapped in a temporary fiberglass cast, and he’ll get a hard cast at some point next week.
He’s so tough, and I am proud of him. I on the other hand, don’t like seeing him in a cast… at all. There’s just something that doesn’t sit right with me. I was antsy and impatient the whole time while we were there, and just wanted to get him home. I’m glad he’s so brave, I kept petting him, and looking at him, and at one point he just looked over, smiled, squeezed my hand, and then pushed it off of him. He makes me laugh, he’s never been one to cuddle.
He’s also so positive. I was bummed for him that he’ll have to miss some baseball, possibly his first game, and he just said, “well, I’ll have to get a baseball video game!”
I’m sure this is the first of many trips to the emergency room, and I’m glad it was a small deal to start with!

Well, you did better than me. When Ragan broke his arm, I almost puked at home, then when we got to the hospital, I fainted. I’m sorry he broke it. Hopefully he can get a blue cast! Remember to save it for an example for later!

It looks like he is taking after his mom.

I’m so sorry , honey. I feel bad for all of you. He is so strong. I do not that anytime your child gets hurt, you would much rather it be you. You want to push them off that hospital bed and do it yourself.
You did very well.
I’m proud of you all.
Love, Mom

That picture on Brody’s blog cracks me up. Blue looks like he is taking it all in stride. He doesn’t looked phased at all.
I can only imagine that it probably hurt you and Brody worse than it did him. He will have an awesome story to tell his friends!!

You all did great and Blue will be back on his two feet in no time! Yes, I do hope he gets a blue cast. All in all, it is never easy to see one’s child in pain, etc.

Poor guy!
I’m glad your first trip with him was a not-too-bad sounding one!
It’s so hard, isn’t it, when you want to just love on them and hold them and they want you to just leave them alone?! Our 3 yr old does that, and I can only imagine how much more it is when they are older!!

That picture just cracks me up!
He just looks like he is saying, with his hand all casual behind his head and wearing cool torn jeans,
“Yeah, I mighta’ snapped something, doc. No biggie. Just make sure you give me a white cast so my fam and pals can have plenty of room to sign.”
I’m glad he’s alright.

I’m glad to hear he’s alright.
I think I would have been a mess, well maybe not in front of him, but on the inside. Broken, cracked bones or huge lacerations scare me! However, with two boys, I might need to get used to it!
You have a very brave boy and you are a wonderful mom, Kristin!
