The Compassion Bloggers

February 10, 2008 - 11:24 pm No Comments

The organization Compassion has taken out several high profile bloggers to Uganda.  They will be writing of their experience, and I imagine to raise awareness of the needs of the children, and how it is that Compassion helps.  For the list of Bloggers, scroll down my sidebar, and you’ll find the button featuring this very trip, and a handy tab thing, that lets you see who the bloggers are, and links to them.

~ Follow them along their journey.

Book Club

February 7, 2008 - 6:51 pm No Comments

31akkdyfuhl.jpgOver at Inspired to Action we are starting a book and movie club, led by one of our writers, Amy. The first book is “Justice in the Burbs,” by Will and Lisa Samson.

It is about a couple who strive to make a difference where they are living, saying, “Life keeps us busy, and the poor and disenfranchised of our world are invisible as we go from our garage to our workplace and back again. But suburbanites can be a force for social justice in the world.” You don’t have to just live in the suburbs to read this, it’s about “being the hands of Jesus wherever you live.”

~We will be reading one chapter a week. Thats it. You can do that, right? We’ll start the discussion tomorrow, Friday, at Inspired to Action. I’m off to read the first chapter, see you there tomorrow!(if you want to join in next week, and read two chapters to catch up, please do!)

The crazy TN weather

February 6, 2008 - 12:20 pm 6 Comments

Apparently the weather in TN and surrounding states last night was very severe.  Thankfully, the really bad parts missed our little town.  There was still strong winds, thunder, lightning, and tornado warnings for our county, but we didn’t have to take our kids down to the downstairs closet (the only room in our house without outside walls) and wait it out.

This is the third year we’ve lived here, and every year there has been at least one storm where it was really bad, and we were at one point told by the news to get to our “safe place.”  It makes me wonder why most homes here, are not built with basements?

Nonetheless, aside from our car being pummeled by the golf ball size hail the first year we lived here, we’ve avoided having much damage done to our house or selves.  Being from CA, this weather is very crazy to us, it’s exciting, but crazy.

Other parts of TN, and surrounding areas were not so fortunate, so sending prayers their way is a good idea.  Euphrony’s friends home in Jackson were hit badly by the weather, as I am sure more people in that area as well, along with the Union University campus.

The “Super-ball” players

February 4, 2008 - 9:43 am 1 Comment

boys.jpgThey found sharpies, marked their faces, put on their “jerseys” and were ready.  We had some team hudles, threw the winnie the pooh football around, knocked over a vase, tackled each other on the bean bag chairs, and successfully watched the entire super bowl game.

My oldest boy decided when we moved here, that he loved the color orange and the TN Vols jerseys, which is why he’s wearing that. We’ve never actually seen a game by them. My 3 year old said that his Alaska shirt actually said, “Super ball.” Blue was routing for the Giants, and Aiden the “Parots.”
