Grocery Bill?
I read a magazine article the other day about the amount different people spend on their grocery bill. I was thinking also, about how much ours is going to increase the older our boys get. Just imagine, a house with three teenage boys in it. That’s probably a box of cereal a day, a gallon of milk a day… etc.
My five year old has just started eating his whole meals, all three of them, and snacking throughout the day. He’s growing increasingly, and we can not split meals between him and his little brother anymore when we go out.
I am just curious what you all spend a month on groceries? (You can answer anonymously.)
The people in this magazine articles had crazy big yearly incomes, so I think that had something to do with the amount they spent on groceries. (….or maybe they had three teenage boys..)

We have a family of six and one dog. The kids are 18 (boy), 15, 11, and 8 (all girls). Our average is around $650/mo., BUT we shop in a military commissary. If we did not have that luxury, it would be about 30% more per month on average. I do get a few things at Sams Club too.

I would say we spend about 400.00 and go out some. I have noticed an increase as my kids get older.

I’d say around 400 too. We go out at least three times a week too. My mom is always shocked by the prices in the grocery stores here. She shops at walmart and save a lot. Franklin now has an Aldi’s, I haven’t been.

I have two teenage boys (16 & 17) and they never stop eating! They’re healthy and active and I don’t buy junk food, except for the occasional bag of doritos to eat with sandwiches. We spend about $600/mo and eat out a couple of times/week. Between my boys and their friends (teenagers come with lots of friends, but better they’re at my house than anywhere else) we do go through a box of cereal and a gallon of milk/day. I was shocked when my youngest told me he ate SIX yogurts yesterday! We also go through a gallon of kool-aid and two gallons of iced tea every 1-2 days. A bag of clementines and two bunches of grapes I purchased Wednesday evening? Gone already. Start saving now.

That’s an interesting question!
I’d say we probably spend about $400 a month or so, too.
I know as our boys get older it will increase, though, especially seeing as one of them doesn’t even eat real food yet!

Four hundred is a good estimate for us, too. This includes diapers (which I’m hoping to be done with SOON) and pet food for two cats and a rabbit. We only go out about once per week, on average. I have definitely noticed the groceries getting more expensive, though…

So, I know theses are California prices, but we spend about 6-800 a month. My three boys are a little older and I do have Matt (my healthy eater husband). I thought I was doing pretty good too. We go out maybe once or twice a week. not alot though. too expensive! Ragan has really started eating. (He is offically taller than me now. He’s grown an inch in 2 months!)

I have two brothers (20, 18) plus my dad and I would estimate ~300 a month since we try not to eat out and also avoid the snacks as possible.

Our monthly budget is $550, but sometimes we go over. I have a feeling that our budget will be increasing over this next year.

I’m guessing we average about 550 a month – that includes most toiletries, cleaning supplies, diapers and pretty much everything else you can get at our super sized grocery store.

We spend about $1000 a month on groceries. That is not being extravagant, either. We have six kids at home. We spend more on groceries now than we did when all eleven kids were living at home. And we definitely do not have a huge income.

We spend around 600 a month with 2 small kids. I’ve started clipping cupons recently and I just subscribed to thegrocerygame.com. In about 12 weeks I should see a big reduction in our grocery spending.

wow! It sounds like everyone is similar! About 4-600 average. I guess depending if you are including cleaning, diapering supplies etc.
Daisy, 6 kids would definitely cause a large grocery bill, and probably a lot of that is because you are eating out less, ?

We try to enforce a really tight budget of $250 a month on groceries, but we only have one child. When we’re up to twelve kids, I’m sure we’ll spend at least $400…

I’m totally late in posting this, but I’m going back and reading all your posts. =)
I have hubby, & 3 girls (8,5,2) and we spend 450 including any paper products, cleaning supplies, personal care items etc.
I shop at Aldi A LOT!!! And a little bit at Sam’s. Mostly Walmart though.
